Abstract:

Intussusception is the most common cause of intestinal obstraction in children aged 3 months to 6 years. Complete understanding of its clinical and radiographic manifestations can play a major role in the early diagnosis and treatment and prevents its complications. In this study plain abdominal X-rays of 51 patients with intussusception were evaluated. Suggestive radiographic signs of the disease were observed in 90% of study population. Thise findings indicate importance the importance of abdominal X-ray in the diagnosis of intussusception. The important signs of intussusception in their order of appearance were as follows: The distention of small bowel loops, sparse large bowel gas, soft tissue mass, signs of intestinal obstruction and crescent sign.

Comparison of Abdominal X-ray Findings and Results of Surgery in Neonates with Gastrointestinal Obstruction

Background Gastrointestinal (GI) obstruction is one of the most important surgical emergencies in neonates. Surgeons should select between conservative and invasive strategies. Imaging modalities are important in proper diagnosis. This study evaluates the sensitivity of abdominal radiographies (with or without contrast) in detection of neonatal GI obstruction. Materials and Methods A cross-sect...

Sensitivity and Specifity of Plain X-Ray in Diagnosis of Acute Sinusitis

ABSTRACT With considering of high prevalence of sinusitis and variable imaging modalities in diagnosis of it, we decided to evaluate sensitivity and specifity of plain x-ray in diagnosis of acute sinusitis. In this researeh , CTscan and plain x-ray findings of 83 patients with suspected acute sinusitis (by otorhinolayrngologist) - with considering of ethical and economic notices - were compar...

Radiographic Sensitivity in Industrial Radiographic Testing With X-Ray Films

Radiographic Testing (RT) is widely used in industries, at airport for security checks, medical applications etc. to detect anomalies in materials and human bodies. Radiographic Testing is the common NDT methods used in the construction and fabrication industries for the oil & gas sectors using welding, gas/liquid transmission pipelines, casting foundries, and condition monitoring in existing o...

Optimization of X - ray Radiographic Imaging

Synopsis This chapter presents x-ray image quality optimization techniques using digital phantom images and computerized observer models. The X-ray imaging parameters are optimized so as to maximize tumor detectability while minimizing the patient dose. Digital phantoms are generated using the virtual photographic and radiographic imaging simulator (ViPRIS) package. ViPRIS uses a tomographic ph...
